The traditional model of education in the United States is in transition.

?Now that education at all levels can be delivered using digital technology anywhere, anytime, the traditional model of education in the United States is in transition.?

And

The University will likely grow to about 8,000 students by the year 2020. Before anyone in the neighborhood panics, the majority of these students will be online or at other physical locations.?? - Concordia University President Charles Schlimpert

SchlimpertPerhaps Concordia President Schlimpert should advise our Governor, the Board of Higher Education, and the Oregon Education Investment Board, none of which seem to understand the online future of education. From the Oregonian article ?Charles Schlimpert, longest serving college president in Oregon, talks about his 30 years at Concordia University? by Larry Binghasm (here):

?.Q: What are the biggest changes ahead in the next 30 years?

A: Not just big, cataclysmic! Now that education at all levels can be delivered using digital technology anywhere, anytime, the traditional model of education in the United States is in transition.?

And, of course, we can't ignore the financial questions: Current funding models for education at all levels are seriously flawed and need significant change. The model of either tax or tuition is not sustainable.?

ConcordiaFinally, we must remain true to faith and our founding in 1905 by Lutherans and also chart new paths to effective public-private partnerships?../

?. Q: Concordia is one of the fastest growing colleges in the state. How much more does the university want to grow and why?

A: Based on the most recent version of the university's strategic planning process, the University will likely grow to about 8,000 students by the year 2020. Before anyone in the neighborhood panics, the majority of these students will be online or at other physical locations. For example, we opened a law school in Boise, Idaho and 73 students began this fall. Students who access the university's online programs are very likely to be people who are attracted to the university's mission but are place-bound?.
