THE TEAM

You would be part of our highly profiled team, working out of our Edmonton office. Our Commercial Lines Underwriting team is responsible for the business development and underwriting of Commercial Lines in Edmonton.? As a member of the Western Regional management team, you would have the opportunity to contribute to the success of our business plan in Western Canada. THE POSITION

As the successful candidate, you will be responsible for managing and directing Commercial Lines underwriting operations for the assigned territory to support regional objectives of service, profitability and growth.? The Territory Manager will be responsible for managing and directing Commercial Lines underwriting operations for the assigned territory to support regional objectives of service, profitability and growth.? The successful candidate will monitor employee performance; provide guidance as necessary; identify training needs and develop plans to ensure that staff have the skills and knowledge required to achieve regional and corporate objectives.? The Territory Manager will assist in the underwriting of risks in the territory as required, and ensure that all risks underwritten meet established standards and that corporate guidelines are adhered to.? The Territory Manager is expected to develop, implement and monitor broker development, financial and other business plans for the assigned territory and work with a high degree of autonomy.

JOB DUTIES

  • Manage and co-ordinate commercial lines operations in the assigned territory to achieve regional objectives of service, profitability and growth
  • Direct and assist underwriting staff in the underwriting of more complex risks, and approve risks beyond individual authority levels as required, to ensure that quality business is selected and written
  • Develop and monitor commercial lines business and financial plans for the assigned territory to ensure that regional goals and objectives are achieved
  • Develop, implement and monitor broker management and development plans to generate and maintain profitable business
  • Manage employee performance, training and development needs to ensure that progressive development of staff and the achievement of current and future regional objectives

SKILL AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

Education:?Minimum - Two year post secondary diploma in insurance or business related field, OR, AIIC designation

Experience:?Minimum - Four years of progressive insurance experience with exposure to broker management and marketing OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.?

Technical Skills:?Ability to lead and motivate staff.? Ability to select, underwrite and manage large and/or complex commercial accounts. Knowledge of commercial products and policy wordings; account development and analysis skills; selling skills; negotiation skills; forecasting and planning skills; broker development and management skills; delegation skills; coaching and counseling skills; interviewing skills; knowledge of business practices and management principles; knowledge of management styles and techniques; knowledge of workflow distribution and control processes; knowledge of corporate goals and objectives; knowledge of broker/insurance company relationships; knowledge of competitors and the insurance market; knowledge of? political and business environments; computer literate, (i.e., PMS, word processing, spreadsheets, Windows).
